NYC based Fiber Artist working with acrylic yarn, making large 2-D crochet flowers, installing onto chain-link fences in public spaces. Originally from England the first installation was Blue Iris. Pieces take months to create but can stay up for up to a year, public interaction part of its necessary character.

Delphiniums

Fence at 14th Street and Second Avenue

“Delphiniums” is a two-dimensional yarn sculpture applied to the fence. A group of 3ft sq delphinium flower heads creating a mural like covering. Reckless and generous, the flowers are out of place on the street. The project uses chain link fences to frame color and texture in surprising ways for passersby, creating an interaction between fiber, color, fence, sidewalk and passing pedestrians who glance up, or even stop and stare. Small artistic gestures of intensively worked and laboriously installed pieces of colorful crochet can lead people into valuing the under-recognized and unappreciated corners of our neighborhood.
