This project pays homage to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Beloved Community,” and his global vision that all people share the wealth of the Earth, where poverty, hunger and homelessness are not tolerated, and where an all-inclusive spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood replaces racism and discrimination. This piece is about collecting the handwritten transcriptions of the word. Lynda Barry, describes handwriting as one of the last places that connects us to drawing in this age of digital devices. The works in this project are in the handwriting of residents of Lower Manhattan, the beginning of the series of open-ended “drawings”.
